He is an 11 year old golden retriever that was fine two days ago. All of a sudden he just started to stumble and fall. He continues to eat and urinate appropriately. But generally all he can do is lay on his bed in the family room and rest.

How old is your dog, what type of dog, any medical issues? Any activities your dog participates in?
Need to know these Before any suggestion can be given...But it is WISER to call your Vet and have your dog seen.
Your dog can be paralyzed, could have an injury, could be something internal. Best suggestion is Take to Vet.

This is unlikely to be rabies.  Rabies presents in one, two or all three of the following stages: Prodromal, Furious and Paralytic.  The prodromal phase is characterised by a change in behaviour.  The animal may show apprehension or anxiety or be sooky and overaffectionate. In the furious phase, the animal is restless, irritable, hyperreactive or aggressive.  In the paralytic phase the head and throat are first affected.  The animal may salivate profusely and progress to respiratory problems.
Weakness and uncoordination is more likely to be a sign of something like spinal cord damage. This can be quite serious and you need to seek veterinary attention to further investigate the problem.
