All skin conditions need physical examination for proper diagnosis. Skin infections are usually due to bacteria. Symptoms can be wound with puss and pain. If your dog is having ball like lump then it can be lipoma which are fatty tumors of the skin and does not cause harm to dogs. So, it will be better to take your dog to vet for diagnosis and treatment.
