Petroleum jelly is always good as it keeps dirt out, and yet, does not let area dry out and get cracked and possibility of more infection. It's not like you can put band aide on an animal. Mind you, there are liquid band aides that can be purchased. Check with your parmacist to see if this is an option
My dog's left eye was swollen for about two days. He is a silky terrier, so he has long hair around his eyes that is prone to matting. I put a hot compress on it twice a day to try to release the mat, thinking that was causing the swelling. He sleeps with me, and all night I noticed him moving around a lot. In the morning I awoke to find him wiping at his face with his paw. I took a closer look and found that he had completely ripped off the mat of hair around his eye, leaving a gash that was about 1/2 inch wide. I don't know what to do to keep him from wiping it on the ground or with his paw, and protect it from infection. His eye is still swollen, and I have cleaned the wound out with hydrogen peroxide and antibiotic ointment. I also tryed to put a band-aid on the wound which is on the bridge of his nose directly beneath his eye. Help?
Neosporin
My Cocker Spaniel has chronic scabs and open wounds on his nose.
The vet recommended an over the counter exfoliating moisturizer. That makes no sens to me.
Anyway, it was useless.
Help if ou can.
