They say our eyes are a window into our soul, and can be a fantastic indication of health problems in humans - with dogs, the equivalent is their nose. Your dog's nose can tell a thousand things, and that's why the image of a happy dog always features a wagging tail, and a wet nose! There can be many reasons why your dog has a crusty scab on his nose. One of the reasons could be that your canine buddy has a mild infection. Dog's noses are very sensitive and sometimes the skin surrounding the nose can become infected, especially if your dog has recently gotten over or contracted a simple sinus infection. In these cases, taking a trip to your vet will certainly help aid his or her recovery. Your dog will most likely be prescribed an antibiotic-based medication to help ease the infection and clear up the scabbing area.

Crusting, dry noses in dogs do not always mean infection. Dogs that spend a lot of time outside regularly suffer from this from being purely 'weather beaten'.  You can of course use a plain petroleum jelly such as Vaseline, but as you have stated before, your dog may lick it off as most dogs do. This is why sometimes a trip to your vet to get a tablet or medicine is necessary, as treating a condition like this externally can sometimes be next to impossible thanks to your pooch's long tongue!

A dry, scabbed nose can mean many things in your dog, and to get it treated and solved accordingly and quickly, you are best paying a visit to your veterinarian's surgery.

I do the same thing as well for my dog. I'm not too sure what causes it I believe it could be that they aren't drinking enough water or it justs the type of breed. My dog is a pug and they are know to have issues with that. If you keep up with the application the crust will not be a problem, even if she licks a bit of it off. That has been my experience. I apply it to my dogs nose once every 1 or 2 days. Though you should not use Vaseline since it is petroleum and that can potentially harm your dog. I would recommend a couple drops of olive oil or vegetable oil, that'll do the trick.

My pug is in very good heath but has the problem with a brown crusty nose...I think the problem is that he eats people food ...I feed him vege's,chicken, eggs.rice ect...I believe it is heathier then what ever they put in dried or canned dog food and since his nose gets right inot the action and the food is wet it stays on his nose...I am going to try the olive oil sounds like a good idea I was going to try vasoline but I don't think he would like that...and olive oil sounds like it would absorb better so thinks for the tip...he is so cute but the brown nose has to go.....eve  if it suits him since he is a little brown nooser!

Can be caused by using plastic dishes for food and water, or unclean dishes. I recommend using stainless steel dishes only, and wash them very frequently.
