My Lab mix does this too... It's a habit he's only just picked up. It's a little gross, but he's perfectly happy. He's a bit compulsive... I'm thinking it's just a doggie pastime.

Dogs (and cats) do this to expel accumulated hair from their esophagus. It's more common with cats because they groom themselves and results in coughing up a fur-ball. With dogs, it can be an indication the dog needs to be brushed more often. It can also be from accumulation of pet hair from your carpets. It sticks to the pet's toys (especially tennis balls) and ends up in the dogs throat. The esophagus catches it preventing it from passing through the digestive system. Eating grass causes a reaction so they can cough it up. It's a natural defense mechanism.
Do yourself and your pets a big favor and clean up shedding hair from both your pets and your furniture, particularly the carpet.
If your dog eats grass, let him. He must need to. Just stay outside with him until he coughs it up. You don't want that action in your house. It will happen within 20 minutes after eating the grass. Just be careful not to let him eat plants that could be harmful.

They don't chew it up - don't know if you've noticed, but dogs don't chew! They just bite, tear and swallow! Maybe a visit to the vet might be in order. She might have swallowed an object which can't pass through her stomach, like a ball or something, and is constantly trying to expel it. Yes, the more I think about it, the more I think you should take her to a vet!
Something is going on with her, and she is probably thinking that the grass will help to make her better, but if she is doing this all the time, then I think it's time for you to get her to the vet dear.

I quit going to the vet, and just let her eat the grass in moderation and everything is fine..
She is healthy, happy and I'm NOT funding the vet's new home over what some "old timer" told me just let be...
