Why Is My Cat Bleeding From Her Butt Or Vaginal Area?

This could be due to a number of contributing factors. It is worth noting that it is not normal to see vaginal bleeding in a cat. Female cats don't bleed when in heat like dogs do, and usually clean any blood away at first sight. If your cat is bleeding and hasn't been spayed, it could be complications from pregnancy, or a recent birth or miscarriage. It could also be pyrometra which is an infection of the uterus commonly found in female dogs, but also female cats, known as 'queens'. The disease causes the uterus to inflame and fill with pus. If left untreated this can be fatal so it is important to get your cat to the vets as soon as possible, just to be on the safe side. If she is, or has been, pregnant and given birth, there are a few signs to look out for, the first being her nipples. If your cat has had babies you should be able to express milk from her nipples. The nipple area may also look wet, or have matted fur around them where kittens have been suckling. It might be that the bleeding is coming from the anus rather than the vagina, and if this is the case, your cat may have an infection in one or both of the anal glands, which sit either side of the anus at approximately 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions. Fecal impaction, constipation and diarrhoea are the most common causes of bleeding rectal bleeding, so it could be any of these reasons. Alternatively, it could be due to other conditions such as rectal cancer, parasites and poisoning. Whatever the cause, it is not normal for this to occur and so it is advisable for you to take your cat to the vet as soon as possible.

The best you can do is take get her to the vet immediately. There could be something seriously wrong (and contagious if you have other cats). It could also be a severe case of worms that can be treated easily and effectively by the vet. But your best bet is to take her to the vet and find out what is causing the bleeding. There's nothing you can do to treat anal bleeding at home.

Good luck! But hopefully it is something that the vet can treat! We'll keep our paws crossed for you!

Are you sure it's from her butt? Her lady parts are also very close to the same region and you could be looking at a urinary tract infection. This is just as painful for a cat as it is for a human. Watch her when she goes to the litter. Is she straining and nothing but a few drops comes out? Is she going more frequently that usual? Does she meow or growl when she's trying to go?

This problem is very easily fixed by a quick trip to your vet. A visit and antibiotics should run you less than $100 but if you leave it and it gets worse it will cost significantly more than that.

Do it for the love of your kitty.

Cats do not bleed when they are in heat, the only normal reason is because she has had a miscarriage, but if thats not the case it could be from worms, and is she is bleeding it could be fatal.  if it is from her butt you need to see your local vet. Sense I do not know the details.       p.s its a common misconception for people to think cats bleed while their in heat, but its just not true, but cats can be known for having miscarriages

Your cat probably has a intestinal problem and should be seen by a vet asap. Anything hing that disrupts the natural workings of the stomach and/or bowels can cause bleeding. Some of these problems are minor such as worms others are more severe such as stomach ulcers or cancer. That's why it's important to get it to a vet, any of those things can cause larger problems or even be fatal left un treated. Simply make your cat a vet appointment as soon as you can, it would probably be a good idea to see if the vet will need a stool sample for testing.

Hey....has it got a lump around its bum area? Or is it walking funny? Cause my cats been bleeding out her bum and shes got a lump and the vet said it may be a tumor because its fairly hard. It's best to take it the vets incase it goes any worse...Also has it had any goo out of it like a clear liquid?

You have to take him to the vet, there isn't any reason a pet should be bleeding for no reason, it could be that he ate something and it is obstructing his bowels, or has cut them somehow, and he would then be suffering. Hope this helps you out, good luck.

Kittens are not born through the anus--discharge from the anus/rectum is not a sign of pending birth.  Since your cat goes outside and hunts/fights regularly I am concerned this is a ruptured abscess.  This cat needs to be examined by a veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment.  Especially since this cat is pregnant an infection left untreated can become very serious for mom and kittens.

My cat has had this 3 times in the past 6 months--The vet told me it is from either severe diarrhea or constipation---where he is straining and he hurts his intestines--This also happened to my girlfriend's dog--
If it is diarrhea make him something with rice--either ground meat cooked or chicken or tuna the rice will bind him--If it is constipation I am not sure--this just happened again to me today--taking back to vet tommorrow---I think there is a cat laxative if it is constipation vet can give Rita-

CATS don't BLEED WHEN THEY ARE IN HEAT!!! You should take her to the vet ASAP! This can happen if a cat has a dead kitten inside her tummy... And if she just had a litter you should maby even get a X-ray
~hope this helps at all :)

Is your cat fixed? If you haven't had her fixed, she could be heading into heat, and when a female cat has her menses, she is ready to mate. On the other hand if she is fixed, she could have something very serious going on that could be life threatening to her.
In that case I would get her to the vet as soon as you can. You don't want her to suffer if indeed she is suffering. Hope this helps, good luck.

It is possible that your cat has a wound around the anus or rectum, has some mild colitis that is not producing diarrhea just blood, or the anal glands are impacted or infected.  Anal glands are residual scent glands located at 4 and 8 o'clock around the anus; they release a small amount of smelly liquid when a cat defecates.  Some cats do not release this liquid and the glands become impacted then infected.
Your cat needs to be examined by a veterinarian to determine the cause of bloody stool--this is not normal.

Maybe you should get her poo analyze for worms
they tend to rub their butts on floor or carpet when
they are infected.

She might be having a period, but if it is coming from her butt then she might have something wrong with her intestines.

Bleeding from any part or opening is an alarming sign which should be taken care immediately. If your cat bleeds other than heat period then it can be suffering from cancer. Cancer often develops from lumps that are an excessive growth of tissues. Take it to vet for a thorough check up. There is one more possibility that is your cat may have taken in hair that is irritating it and causing it to bleed.

Yes, take it to the vet. If it's a female cat, ask the vet if she is in heat.
