Yes make sure dad stays out until babies are eating on there own not only can mom mate again within 24 hours if he is in there she will eat the babies and kill dad. I breed hammies and the slightest sign of danger from dad or even you as the owner in her eyes she will kill the babies. Just leave her alone in a dark warm quiet place unless your feeding her and then be very calm and quiet with no fast movement. Hammie moms are very sketchy and almost very violent towards other hammies and her babies if she feels uncomfortable.you can contact me on here at Shawnag if you have anymore questions, I have a boat load of info from actual breeding to homemade treats to make her milk more for babies.

The first question to ask is what kind of hamster do you have?  Is it a small or dwarf hamster or large, Syrian, Teddy Bear hamster?  The female comes into heat every three days and as you are not a certified breeder, this is not like having a dog or cat that has a litter.  If you hamsters are the Syrian type, they should not have been put into the cage together in the first place.  You will need to separate them for life.  They will need totally separate set-ups.

When a hamster eats the babies it is usually only when the mother knows that the babies have some sort of defect and will not be healthy.  Then the mother will eat the babies.  Just because the father is in the cage when the babies are born does not mean that he will eat the babies.  If you have a dwarf or Robo hamster, then the fathers also make very good care givers along with the mother.

When you separate the parents, you are avoiding more babies from being born, also, if the parents are large hamsters, then it is not good for the mother to get pregnant so soon after giving birth. You can kill the mother by having her get pregnant again and also have babies that have defects that she ultimately eats.

You should have the hamsters sexed by the time they are about four weeks.  I would contact a local pet store now and let them know you have these hamster babies.  They should open their eyes at about two weeks, and they will start weaning around three to four weeks depending on just how many babies the mother gave birth to and how large they are.

Defiantly separate the male and female. If you do not separate them, it could prove fatal for the babies because the male will devour them within one day, no matter the number of babies. Please for the babies' sake, get the parents separated!!!!

Remove the male. Your hamster can get pregnant within 24 hours, again! ! ! Babies are safe with mom until at least 7-8 weeks old.

If you have a Syrian or large hamster, you have to remove the father. If you have a Robo or dwarf hamster, then the father can stay in with the mother. The father will be a very good parent and will nuture the babies and help the mother. This is the type of society the dwarf hamsters live in. Large hamsters do not live in the same type of societies. You should remove the father to avoid having more babies.

Female hamsters come into heat every three days, not twenty-four hours

This isn't always true. My daughters hamster had 6 babies, and today at almost 3 weeks old the mother has eaten 3 of those babies.. left half of one for my 7 year old to see I'm not too happy that the Pet Store sold us a male and female, when he told us it was 2 females. So be cautious please because saying the babies are always safe with the mom isn't true.

I think ferretfuzzy means that directly after giving birth, she will be in heat for the next 24 hours. And on average, hamsters come into uterus (heat) every four days. https://www.google.com/search?q=how+long+does+a+female+hamster+come+into+heat%3F&oq=how+long+does+a+female+hamster+come+into+heat%3F&aqs=chrome..69i57.7490j0j1&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8
