You may be able to, but they may not want to mate. Unlike humans, animals only have sex for procreation, i.e., perpetuation or continuation of the species to which they belong. As a result, this creates another difference between animals and humans, which is that having sex for creation and not for pleasure results in animals seeking mates only when a female releases fertile eggs and is capable of becoming pregnant. During this relatively short, reoccurring and constant time frame during which the female can get pregnant is similar for humans in that it is brought about by the female body becoming flooded by a massive chemical influx of pregnancy hormones. These create a condition in the female referred to as estrous which usually occurs once during each pregnancy cycle and is usually what causes animals to seek out each other for mating. Humans are the only animals that are known to have sex purely for pleasure as well as take preventative measures to stop or reduce any chances of becoming pregnant, animals do not.
I have two syrian and 3 dwarf hamster and they get along fine all you ned to do is make sure the syrian are tame and not aggressive.
As with any species the female needs to be the larger due to the fact if she is smaller and the babies receive the larger size gene they could become lodged in her killing them as well as the mother.
It should be ok.But when the babies are born they will be small like the father ,but cute. There should be no problem with that because the babies will grow up to be a little smaller than the mother.I know you are kinda worried about your little guy, but if the female is in season(witch means see is ready for pregnancy) then she most likley won't hurt the male.If any fighting goes on wile trying to breed them you should have a book in hand to be able to separate them. The male will bite the female's hindquarters but he is only trying to raise them(this is not considered fighting.)Don't worry, thing should go right because I had the same questions but it worked out fine with me.
Well I have a male dwarf hamster (who I thought was a female) and a female teddy bear hamster living together and they act like best friends. They sleep together even. I have seen him try to mate with her on a few occasions but she usually just goes off and does something else. He doesn't seem too persistent. They have been living together for a few months and both are sexually mature but she has not gotten pregnant. I cannot guarantee that they can't reproduce but mine haven't yet. And not all hamsters are aggressive toward each other. My teddy bear hamster is twice the size of my dwarf but they get along great.
Don't try it and take the risk. .
Yes you can I have a litter of nine right now just make sure the male is smallest
No, they will not be born with defects the babies are ok but the problem is the babies will earn that attitude that the hamsters did in the mating so careful the best pairs are the same pair of hamsters
No becouse they might fight and die.when they are babys they do not fight I would check at pets at home on the a3 new malden they know evry thing about hamsters and other animals.
Well you can introduce them and see if they get along, and since the female is bigger it is fine. She has to be in heat in order to get pregnant. How old are they? If she is too old there could be complications causing problems for her and the babies. Also keep in mind if she has several babies where are they all going to go since males and females after being weaned should be separated and most males will fight and will all have to have their own cages after maturity.
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!
If they do breed, you will end up shortening the life of the babies. Please do not try this.
The breeding is best left to certified hamster breeders. No pet store will want to take cross bred hamsters and then most pet stores will not take hamsters from anyone who is not a certified breeder.
Then what would you do with the babies? If you ended up with babies and they had birth defects, this would be cruel.
Please don't breed these hamsters.

I wouldn't try if I were you because they are totaly different breeds and one of the babies may turn out a little strange due to the parents also because syrian hamsters need to be kept alone and start fighting with the other. Honestly I once put in a Female syrian and a male syrian and the male was quite calm but the female nearly bit the males ear off!!!
That is true experience!
Hope that answered your question!!

Mating a dwarf hamster with a syrian hamster isn't like mating two different breeds of dogs its more like mating a cat and a cockroach it is probably not feasible first off second if for whatever reason it does go to pregnancy the pup will not make it most likely wont even come out which will in turn mean death for mommy hamster and beside dwarf hamster males can stay with mom for birth since he will help her but syrians can not they will kill so to answer both question for mkz12 and ryanna hopefully you all take my advice and also I'm not an expert syrians and dwarfs can play together just fine but think about this we as humans can play with a horse and sometimes one or the other gets hurts but there is no possibility that we can breed with them
Even if they could get along enough to mate, I don't think they'd have babies, since dwarf and Syrian hamsters are different species. If a small male hamster mated with a bigger female and had babies, they are likely both Syrians and the male is just small or young and not a dwarf. Hamsters can be confusing to some people, because they not only come in different breeds, but also different species. It would be similar if say, foxes, coyotes, jackals, etc. Were kept as pets, but they are not breeds of dog but different species of dog altogether. I hope that clarifies a few things.
Yeah, its just like if 2 different breed dogs mate. It will be fine.
No, diffidently DO NOT BREED THE HAMSTERS TOGETHER! The female will attack the male. I would get the same type of breed in order for them to mate.
No its not like dogs you can not breed them. It would kill the female or cause them to fight istead of mating. You can't ate different breeds.
Syrians can't and shouldnt mate with another species. If you put them together the syrian WILL kill your dwarf hamster
