If you are talking about constipation, it depends on the severity and duration of the constipation.  Constipation can be caused by worms, diet, inadequate dietary fiber, pain and obstructions.  If the constipation is long standing or severe, your vet will need to investigate, and an enema may be necessary to relieve the blockage.  For milder cases, a change in diet may be all that is needed to solve the problem.  You can also add pumpkin, bran or metamucil to your dog's diet to increase dietary fiber.  Adult dogs should be wormed every 3 months, so ensure your dog is up to date.
