Has Anyone Ever Heard Of A Wire-haired Chihuahua? When Our Short Haired Chihuahua Mated With Our Long Haired Chihuahua, One Of Their Puppies Ended Up Having Wirey Hair. I Just Wanted To Know If Anyone Has Ever Known This To Happen Before.

My newest Chihuahua "Little Bit" is a wire haired Chihuahua.  Her mom is a short hair and dad is a very bushy long hair.  I asked at the Vet if there's such a thing as a Wire Haired Chihuahua and they said it's in the system as a choice for them!  Little Bit was a litter "left-over" that I picked up last month at the age of 7 months and is very boingy!  One awesome thing about her appearance is that she can be classified as a Tri-colored dog and her head on top all the way to her muzzle is black but she has brown eye-brows!  I really wish we could post pictures!  After reading the breed standard I don't think they'll be accepted in show circles...but I'm okay with that!

I also have a wire hair chi. She is full blooded chi. I got her from the local shelter and the vet said she was indeed a wire hair chi. Everyone says she looks like a rat. But I just love her to death and she loves me like no other dog ever has. She was a blessing in so many ways to me!

Well I think...I have one!!! I saw her parents and they were both short haired chihuahua's and she is the most wonderful puppy I have owned. She get's teased a lot but her personality makes up for everything.She was the smallest of the liter and had short hair until she turn 8 months old,now she's wired literally.

I have never heard of one and it is not recognized as a specific breed. But I have noticed that longhair chi's can have many different fur textures. Mine for example is very soft and silky feeling, and some of her puppies have had rougher fur that is very thick, so that puppy might just be one with mdifferent feeling fur.

We actually have an adult male that is wired haired. It is odd and it took some getting used to be he is really cut. He has father a litter of puppies and it looks like one of the males is going to be wired haired too.

If you watch the Dog Whisperer on occasion you will see a dog  that appears to be of that description. It is a  dog with a sand- colored coat.You will see it in Cesar's dog pack.

I think I have one but the person who gave him to me said he was a chihuahua and brussells griffon mix.  His hair sticks out all over and he has a squared nose.

Hi, just like you i had no idea what a wired hair chihuhua until i ran across a ad that was giving away chihuhua puppies in the next lil town over. He was in the pic B1. He was the only one different looking from his other four siblings. Loved him the minuted i laid eyes on him. And with in a few hours he was mine. I must say chicho came to me in a part of my life that i needed a reason to get outta bed so its not so much he found a home with me i found it with him.He is a sweetheart. Spunky, athletic, and full of personality. Theres never a dull day.. Chico a few months back caught parvo due to my ignorance on how important having the dogs get there shots was. Seeing my poor lil guy fight for his life was the most heart aching feeling . He spent a week in a half in the animal hospital .. He finally had pulled thru . Needless to say of course we don't chance anything with him anymore .. I tell myself all the time my chico is a survivor.. He was made to be in my life . He's saved me in many ways.

My daughter has a beautiful one year old red (deer head) wire haired Chihuahua. Her hair is about two to two and one quarter inch long and lays mostly flat on her body. Her head and muzzle are normal, soft and smooth. She is a very sweet dog and fast as hell.

Yes its not that rare my chihuahua's bother and sister are wire hair and she has soft.

I have one.  She is 2 yrs old.  And, from what I read it is a mixture that is uncommon when a Long haired and Short haired Chihuahua breed.  Does not always happen.

It sounds like somewhere down the line a chihuahua was bred with a terrier....the wire haired might have come from a mixed chi.  They might have looked mostly like chi. But being mixed with terrier in my opinion.....  Dichihuahua
