The only main and actual distinction in Chihuahua's are long coat and smooth coat. The rest is really description or made up sales terms/warning signs. A Chihuahua is a long coat or a smooth coat and a Chihuahua. Nothing else, there is really no other 'kind' of chihuahua. If you look on the breed parent club home page there are a few recent show win photos from the fall specialty. Best of breed was a long coat. You can also check out any websites from the breeder listings to see pics of long coat's and maybe learn a lot more about the breed in the process. They aren't rare.
You can also look around on petfinder. There are over 9000 Chihuahua's and Chihuahua mixes on there due to lack of steps taken to be (or even try to be) a responsible breeder. :-( People think their dog is great, so their pups must be great and the people seem nice and their pups are adorable and everyone seems healthy so won't ever happen. It takes a lot more than that.
