My German Sheperd pup was doing the same thing and after a couple of days of limping we took him to the vet and they told us that w/ german shepherds they are such a large breed that their bodies are growing but there bones can't keep up so they get growing pains it has a special name but I lost the paper The vet gave us some little chewable puppy pain pills and it went away and Ive noticed over the past year that they come and go they get really bad when I feed him the cheap dog food so I have to feed him eukanuba dog food - when they finally get over a 100lbs you will be able to feed them the specific breed Eukanuba made specifically for german shepherds

My puppy is going through the exact same thing right now. I took him to the vet 3 days ago, because at first it was his rear right leg, and the vet said he might of just pulled a muscle and gave me Metacam to give to him once a day. Today I noticed now its his front right leg and again I had to take him to the vet, they said it's just because he is growing too fast and they gave me Prednisone and Tramidol. He leg is swollen, maybe twice as big as his left front leg. Its scary because I haven't even had him for a month, and reading online I see that feeding him the right food can have a lot of help. I'm feeding him Authority that a Petsmart employee recommended, but after going to the vet he preferred Blue Buffalo, so I bought some today and hope it works. Hope everything works out for your pup, I know what you're going through. I feel so helpless when he cries out and I can't help, just have to pet him and comfort him. Best regards.

Is he alone (no other dogs)?  If not, the other may have hurt it.  Don't leave a pup alone with an adult; adults don't have patience and I had my male shepherd kill one of my females right after we got her, as she was wanting to play with him, he didn't like it and just bit down on her neck, breaking it!  He might have got it stuck somewhere, etc.  If it doesn't get better, take him into the vet!

Check pad of foot, if no problems then it could be
Pano, or elbow dysplasia, if it doesnt get better check with vet
