My pomeranian just ate her puppy. What a SHOCK! She still has two. I think something must have been wrong with it and she knew. Has anyone ever heard of a bitch just eating one??

I have heard the puppies or either sick or the mother just don't want to take care of them
I think dogs what there puppies because they can not handle taking care of them or she does not know how to take care of them so she might attack them or even eat them. The mother might be emotionally distressed causing her to think the puppy is food and she might eat it. If the mother is young,she will eat the puppies because she will not know that they are her young,she might think their her poop or something. Maybe dogs eat their puppies when they sence something is wrong with it such as diseases,sick,weak,has trouble breathing or if it is a metal puppy they might eat it for that reason/those reasons. Dogs might of picked up this trend or terrible tragity from their doggy ancestors who might have done the same thing with eating their young pups but for different reasons..

This question wil have various answers to be said. As some of the street dogs do not get enough nourishing food for its puppies they may lead to a feq health related problems and hence to not to see its puppy suffering frequently it kills by its own thoughts...
Dogs eat their puppies because they are to sick to survive. A mother is to weak to protect their puppies from predators so she eats them. Another reason could be is that she doesnt want the puppies. Some times while the mother cleans them she might eat them by mistake.
The male dog will eat male puppies so they will be the dominate one. :(
Some of them miss the father (dog) and some mother dogs get depressed, or don't know what it is that is coming out of her behind.
