Blindness or loss of vision in dogs can be sudden or gradual. It can also be in one or both eyes. Causes of blindness in dogs are corneal diseases, cataracts, inflammation of retina, glaucoma, retinal detachment, uveitis, optic neuritis, and inflammation of the vision controlling center of brain.
Signs of blindness in dogs are fearful behavior, loss of interest in play, inability to find food and water bowls, hitting with objects or walls etc.
Diagnosis includes physical examination, eye tests, neurological tests, blood tests, spinal tap test etc. Treatment depends upon underlying causes.
