First of all a "Pit Bull" isn't a breed of dog recognized by any breed club. It is a category. Many dogs fit into that category including three of the AKC recognized dogs, the American Staffordshire Terrier, The Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the Bull Terrier. Other dogs may include the American Bull Dog, recognized by the ADBA and the American Pit Bull Terrier, also recognized with the ADBA. Both the last stated dogs have breed standards, just like the AKC requires. A common Pit Bull is considered anything that is a mix between any of the Afore mentioned dogs, 1st or 2nd generation. Akita, Bullmastiff, Cairn Terrier, Dogue De Bordeaux, English Cocker Spaniel, French Bulldog, Gordon Setter, Harrier, Ibezan Hound, Jack Russell Terrier, sometimes called the Parson's Terrier or the Parson's Jack Russell Terrier.
