In general both kinds whether a pedigree dog or a mongrel are friendly with children if they have been properly trained when young; puppies though are essentially frisky creatures and may nip while playing and hence may require training before being allowed to play with small children.

Puppies of the same litter may be of different temperaments and hence one cannot say that a particular breed of dog will be friendlier with children; in fact most dogs which have been traditionally depicted as Poodle and Pomeranian may not be as friendly as a larger dog would be with children.

According to many people who have had a mongrel as a pet have said that they are quite adaptable to different situations and have got along well with all family members including children. A pedigreed dog's temperament can be presumed from its parents and hence most people prefer pedigrees to keep company with children
