Pjerskine,
Your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian. The wound should be clipped, cleaned, and thoroughly examined for foreign objects, maggots etc. If there is dead tissue present it may need to be debrided (removed) so fresh and healthy tissue is present to heal. Dogs will continue to lick and bite wounds--an Elizabethan Collar is needed to prevent this. Your veterinarian will put your dog on an appropriate antibiotic. Cephalexin (Keflex) is used to treat infections in dogs--this should be prescribed by your veterinarian if appropriate. The dose is 10mg (milligrams)/lb and will need to be given for several weeks depending upon the severity of the wound.
