Ever since I brought home the girl dog,(I got a toy fox terrier)...my boy dog is very territorial over her. They have mated. I am breeding them so naturally they have mated. We can't even pick her up without him barking or jumping to try to be next to her. Is that normal?

Hi, as it could be as though they had mated  you'll never now for sure unless she start showing other signs of pregnancy. My dogs did the same thing too, but after about a month we took her to her vet visit and they did a blood test on her. As it turns out she was not pregnant. Oh well, I will just have to try again and wait.

If your female dog was in heat ,they most certainly would have mated!   Sorry no disrespect but I think you are being totally irresponsible by not having them both neutered. Castrating the male and speying the female.  This is because there are far too many unwanted pups here already. I mean are you going to let them mate twice a year ,each time that your bitch is in season!.  Please get them both neutered asap. See your vet.

I just thought I ask some questions. I had only plan on mating them 2 times only. Now and maybe 2 years down the road then I will get them neutered. I am aware of complications and breeding too often a year for my doggies. I understand the "irresponsible" part ur saying and I agreed with you about others asking these questions, but not wid me.

Mstacyi, Thank u for coming back to me. Obviously u are not the bad owner that u can seem to be, though I would still not create more dogs on purpose. But I am glad you will finally neuter them both. If your bitch was in the middle of her three week oestrus, then they most certainly would mate It is only a few days that the bitch is fertile. Personally I think it was bad advice to leave them alone. You ought to have been nearby in case she injured him, if she was not ready. Let me know .ta.

That was my delima. I dont know if they had mate or not since I left them alone. I notice blood from her last week it was a light red almost pinkish orange color and that was the same week that both my dogs went while. The day after I left them alone, they seems more close and clam with each other. He wont let us pet her, if we do he will nibble on our hands and pushes her away from us. It's too early to see signs and or even tell.
