Some bleeding is normal during labor; the placentas for each puppy will bleed some as well. There should not be gushing or rapid flow of the blood. Your dog should be bright and alert during the labor. She will strain and push the puppies but should not collapse or become excessively weak. Monitor her gum color if she becomes pale take her to a veterinarian immediately. If you have any concerns about your dog take her to see a veterinarian immediately. Complications of labor can be fatal to mom or puppies.
