Itchy flakey skin can have a whole host of causes. It could be an infection (bacteria or yeast like ringworm) or infestation (fleas, other parasites) or it could be an allergic condition. Dogs can commonly develop flea allergies, food allergies, contact allergies and a condition called atopy, which describes a condition where dogs become sensitised to inhaled allergens like dust mites or pollen. The first thing to do is to go to the vet so they can rule out infection or infestation and maybe give your animal some medication so he can have some relief from the itch. If one of these things is not the cause, then the allergic condition needs to be investigated. Really you need to go to the vet so you can get to the cause of the problem if the condition is to be resolved.

I think that's ring worm. Seriously contagious even to humans.

Try having your dog's thyroid tested. If it's under active it will cause dry skin. Just a thought.
