I don't believe so. I think they are still currently considered a wild animal. If you are considering trying to obtain one, you should first do some research on them. You may find that one wouldn't make a very good pet; even though they do look absolutely adorable on Meerkat Manor.

Yes, Meerkats can be kept as pets. They make excellent pets if bought as a captive bred youngsters by a breeder. If they're bought as youngsters, it gives time for them to adapt to the owner. They can be trained to live freely in the house, being allowed to use the garden and taken out on a harness for walks. Very easy animal to feed and look after if they are exercised enough. Do some research for breeders and find your information there. Don't forget, any animal can bite and misbehave-even those thought to be extremely tame.

No, I wouldn't say so. I heard somewhere it's illegal to keep them as a pet because they are wild animals, but you can adopt them at most safari parks.

Meerkats should be kept where they belong- in the wild. We have enough choice of domestic pets to choose from in this country. We don't know how to look after exotic pets and this results in animals suffering and careless, inexperienced owners often letting the animal loose. I have complained to the RSPCA and the Born Free Foundation after seeing meerkats and skunks (amongst others) available in a local 'pet' shop. These beautiful wild animals need to be left where nature intended.

No, I don't think so, but it would be cool. Not in Canada, thats for sure. But people shouldn't be taking more animals from their home. In the real world, meer kats belong in whats left of the Kalahari. It wouldn't be fair to take them out from their home. It would be like rooting a palm tree and putting in the arctic.
