A dog vomiting yellow bile and white foam could be doing so for a number of reasons. The most common reason dogs are sick is when they have eaten grass. Dogs tend to eat grass, weeds and other plants when they have an upset stomach, but they invariably vomit shortly afterwards.

Another reason for the vomiting is that the dog may have mild inflammatory bowel disease. This causes irritation in the intestines of the dog, and can cause vomit and diarrhoea at times. If the dog is generally sick in the morning after waking, this is most likely to be caused by excess acid accumulating in the stomach of the dog overnight. The excess acid irritates the stomach, and can lead to a dog vomiting. If this is the case giving the dog something to eat late at night will ensure that the stomach acid build up will be reduced and there will be less likelihood of vomiting in the mornings.

There are also medicines on the market that can help with this problem, which calm the stomach. It would be advisable to check the actual cause with a vet before administering any medication. There is a possibility that the dog may be suffering from kennel cough. This is a canine illness that affects the respiratory system of the dog, and can lead to pneumonia if not treated swiftly. The symptoms of this are a dry cough, sneezing, snorting and vomiting. The disease will normally last for about two weeks and can return to a dog when it becomes stressed. The disease is easily spread to other dogs by sneezing and coughing.

There are other more serious reasons why a dog vomits and these include rabies, kidney failure and Addison's disease. The best course of action to establish exactly what is causing a dog to vomit is to take it to a vet as soon as possible.

My dog vomits yellow bile when she hasn't eaten all day, which she does quite often.  She's lazy and I try to get her to eat at least twice a day, when she does she never vomits.
