You can help your dog at the time of whelping but it will be more better to get help from the vets because delivery in dogs can be complicated. You can help your German Shepherd in the following ways during whelping.
1. Ultrasound after 50 days of gestation to know size of liter, birth defects and date of delivery
2. Building a whelping box
3. Cleaning of puppies with dry towel after delivery
4. Cutting of amniotic sac if it is still present
5. Cutting of umbilical cord
