Dogs usually get their first heat cycle at the age of 6-8 months. As Rottweilers are large breed, they can come in to first heat in 8-10 months. Heat cycle in dogs is repeated twice in a year. Start of heat cycle in dogs is identified by swelling of vagina and bloody discharge. This discharge can last for 7-10 days. Mating is not possible during this period.
Female dogs attract male in the second stage of the heat cycle when she show flagging. At this time bleeding is ceased or reduce. If mating is successful then there will be gestation period of 63 days and if the mating is not successful then she will come in to heat after 6 months.
It is recommended not breed dogs after first heat cycle because of physical immaturity. Ideal age for dog breeding is 2 years.
