Like majority of dog breeds, first heat cycle in Pitbull starts at the age of 6 months and she can come in to heat twice in year. Heat cycle can be of 2-4 weeks with average of 3 weeks. All vets recommend not to breed dogs in first heat cycle because dogs are not physically mature at this age. Breeding should be done after 2 or 3 heat cycle and complete fitness tests.
Heat cycle in dogs starts with vaginal bleeding that can last for 10-12 days. Mating does not take place at this time that is possible when bleeding is ceased or reduced and dog show flagging.
