Your asking about Opthalmic and not oral medication? It isn't first choice usually. Not a drug to mess around with (none of them are but some are higher risk than others) and definitely if you aren't sure what you are doing.  Has definitive diagnosis been made (are you certain that's what is wrong or could it be another problem like dry eye or entropian or distichiasis or other problem) and is it primary (only) or secondary (actually caused by or a complication of something else). Does history or other medications or health (or the problem) indicate that medicine should not be given? You would have to call your vet and ask as they are aware of the necessary details that we aren't and there is a chance it could be resolved over the phone if they have all the necessary details and if you haven't seen them you need to do that first so you can actually take care of the problem in the safest and most effective way instead of using the wrong thing and putting your dog in danger in many ways. Hope your baby is feeling better soon.
