Have your veterinarian show you how to express your dog's anal glands. The anal glands are located at 4 and 8 o'clock around the anus. Insert your gloved finger into the anus about 1-2 cm with your thumb on the outside. You will feel a pea to grape sized lump--this is the anal glands. Gently squeeze the liquid from the glands. You will need a helper to hold your dog still.
