If its anal sac disease has reached an impaction stage then the treatment is a procedure expression in which pressure is applied to the anal glands until the thickened secretions come out of the sacs. Sedation can be required if the dog is frightened or is in pain. It is better to apply an antibiotic-steroid combination ointment afterwards directly to the anal sac. In addition, the examining veterinarian may prescribe oral antibiotics to help fight infection. If it is at abscess stage then surgery is required, in case the abscess is not ruptured. High fiber diets help to prevent this disease to reappear once it has been cured.
