Ok. Just to stop you ALL I have a hamster and parakeet in the same cage. It actually works quite well because bird cages for the most part have vertical bars which prevents the hamster from getting up to the perch and other toys I have for the bird. The shavings at the bottom for the hamster to burrow in are so easily changed, (has to be done at lease once a week for the hamsters sake) the droppings are not a problem. They both eat seeds or mix I get them and happen to get along very well. The parakeet wont go in the tubes so they both have there separate areas. The only issue I have is the hamster keeps him awake at night. Doesnt seem so affect him so far but we will see. I think its a great combination as long as you keep up with the maintenance and have a cage big enough its not crowded.

I also have a hamster and 3 parakeets and they don't bother each other at all. It is easier 2 feed than having 2 feed in different cages.

What! No way, I'm sorry but you can definitely not do this. Parakeets need perches and toys hung from the cage , hamsters need bedding and other things. A parakeets cage needs to be made from bars where there is plenty of oxygen for them, while a hamster doesnt need so much in their cage.in a hamsters bage there are tunnels in which a parakeet could be trapped in. Its not only the cages either that is a mistake, both of these animals have different diets, if a parakeet ate/nibbled on the hamsters food then this could harm the parakeet and vice versa. Also, in general they would probably fight because of territorial reasons and just because they are such diff. Creatures. And I could go on, but just don't do that, it is not a good idea!

I would not suggest this. They are two entirely different creatures and need different living requirements. The hampster could get territorial and attack the parakeet. The parakeet would most likely deficate above the hampster and this could certainly become a hygene problem for both pets.

That's just one school of thought. What if the hamster is living in a Parakeet cage with the Parakeet? It doesn't ever say that it's in the hamster's cage. It just asks if they can live together.

Still no thats just a bad idea... I dont think they cud live together cuz hamsters need to burrow and a parakeet cud just get stuck

Uh no that is a bad idea cause they are different species....yeah you would probably come home to your parrakeet pecking at your hamster and you don't want that to happen.
