You can but be careful.  Depending on the ink used for the newspaper the could be compounds toxic to the little critter, I would suggest an alternative if possible.  As for toilet paper, plain white unscented should be okay.  I used to put in the cardboard cores for them to play with and chew on and never had a problem.  I would like to recommend aspen bedding, I've used it for rats, gerbils, and hampsters with no problems.  It also lacks the aromatic oils that pine and cedar have that could potentially cause respiratory problems.  Hope this helps.

Guys I am a petco worker and when I don't have bedding in the store I preffer to use shredded paper because theres no ink and it keeps them warm put as much as so the hamster can bury it self. Here is my setup-
10 gallon tank, mini bowl for water , food , hamster and shredded paper also a wheel roller and some toilet paper tubes so it can go inside and out be sure to clean it out every 2 to 3 days depending on how much poop and mess it makes.

I do not known about toilet paper, but newspaper definately. My Hamster has a thin layer of sawdust to line the bottom of her tray, then I buy a big bag of shredded newspaper from the pet shop.(only a pound and you get loads) If you want you can shred your own, as long as it isn't to thin. It should be roughly a rulers width thick. My Hamster loves it as she can burrow in it and hide in it. She has also recently built a huge nest out of it because of the colder whether, even though she has a perfectly good house with bedding in it.

Don't use newspaper, it can be deadly..That sound weird I know, but the ink is poisonous.
And I don't know about toilet roll, as long as it hasn't been used!!!

Yes I have used both, my mouse preferred to shred the paper herself so I left it in big hunks. Try to avoid color pages and stick with the black and white ones. Hamsters like toilet paper rolls too for tunneling.

Well, I get a new pet mouse and I went to petco to get stuff for it and they said not to use paper products because it upsets there stomach. I suggest wood shavings,that is what I use

Best not use newspaper coz d ink might poison it. I think tissue might be okay tho. Make sure it has no color or scent.

You can use toilet paper if you wish but remember it shouldnt have any colour or smell
