Hamsters can get mites which make them itch and their fur fall out. They often catch them from woodchip bedding, so always use only newspaper and clean towels or kleenex in the cage. Only a vet can give your hamster the proper medication to get rid of the mites. Don't try to treat it yourself, by giving a bath or applying bug repellent - you will kill your hamster! And don't ignore the problem. The mites will increase, the hamster will scratch, and sores and infection will develop on the skin. These mites will not get on people.
Usually the pet could be unhappy, maybe lonely, [they have feelings also] How is hamster [boy or girl?] kept, in a change, box, open or closed? Is it too cold or too worm ? What kind of food do you feed it? How often do you feed it?Do you play with it?

One more possibility - many hamsters are allergic to corn and it will make their fur fall out. I always pick all the pieces out of the seed mix before feeding, including the colorful treats that are mainly corn.
Well my hamster is a male he is kept in a cage that is closed but he can see out he has toys and tunnles to play in as well. The temp stays about 70 all the time in the house. He gets hamster/ gerble food. And I play with him all the time well the last week I haven't had as much time with him a usual but I still play with him some everyday. And his cage is right beside my rabbit who plays with him when they are out.
