You have not indicated whether the stool contains fresh red blood or dark color stools? Are stools normal or watery? What other symptoms your puppy is showing? Fresh blood in stools and dark color stools need different reasons and treatments.

Occasional red and fresh blood in the stools of the dogs can be due to some minor problems but persistent and regular presence of blood can be due to serious problems. Intestinal parasites, virus, bacteria and protozoa can cause blood in stools of dogs. Colitis, polyps in rectum/colon, food allergy, dietary intolerance, diseases of rectum/colon/anus, and clotting disorders are other possibilities. If bloody stools are also accompanied by vomiting, excessive water drinking, loss of appetite, loss of weight and  lethargy then some serious illness is suspected.

Dark brown stool color in dogs indicates digested blood. This occurs when bleeding takes place in stomach. Conditions like foreign bodies in stomach, cancer, inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases, infectious agents, bleeding disorders, metabolic diseases, side effects of some medicines, ulcer of stomach, ingestion of heavy metals, lack of blood supply to stomach etc. You should watch for other symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, pale gums, loss of appetite, loss of weight, bruising, excessive water intake and urination etc.

You should take your dog to vet who may order for
different blood tests, urine tests, abdominal x-ray, abdominal ultrasound, and stool tests after rectal examinations. Treatment depends upon underlying cause. So, you should take your puppy to vet.

My 6month old english bull terrier has sloppy poos with a little blood in them. She likes to eat our other (adult) dogs dinner from time to time, but isn't bothered about her own. We thought the poo thing may be down to her first time of the month but are not sure. She seems otherwise fine. We are going for the rice and yoghurt thing as vets always give anti biotics as they don't know what the bother is and just want to get money out of you, in my experience!
