I received my puppy when he was four weeks old from my neighbor. I was worried he wasnt eating right. Was given the puppy milk, and he wouldnt drink from the bottle. So I took him to the vets and she told me to get his puppy food and soak it in water and give it to him after it softened, so I did this and he began eating it. She told me to take him off the milk because it caused him tummy problems with diahrea. He got every thing he needed from the soaked food, his water and food together. He will now be two years old and weighs in at 86 pounds.
I am having to hand feed my 4 week old staffy x Rottweiler puppy have done since he was born. At the moment from a bottle he is having 60 to 90 ml of lactol milk every 3 to 4 hrs is this ok ? When will he b able to start eating softened puppy food?
Typically, a dog is given away between 8 and 12 weeks of age and usually eat dog food at this time...I believe four weeks is too early to introduce a dog to dog food, but when you do be sure to make the change gradual and remember..a dog will eat if he gets hungry. Don't spoil him and continue to give him milk if he seems reluctant to the transition...wait it out..he'll eat when he's hungry. I agree with mixing dog food with water..it makes the transition much easier on the dog.
