False pregnancies can include all the signs of a real pregnancy, even so far as the dog showing early signs of labour etc - I know because that happened to one of mine!

The scan will tell you for sure but she could well be pregnant and one of the earliest signs is an enlarging and pinking up of the nipples - good luck!

In dogs, there is an estrus cycle in during menstruation which includes a period of false pregnancy. The main cause of false pregnancy is hormonal imbalances. The signs of false pregnancy are unnoticed and subtle. During this false pregnancy, also called pseudo pregnancy or pseudo cyesis, the dog's behavioral and even physical symptoms are just like those in normal pregnancy. They not only have swollen nipples but they also produce milk, have expanded abdomen and they also include nesting and carrying objects and soft toys to the nest. In the early stages, a false pregnancy cannot be distinguished from a real one however later on it is distinguishable as late as after 60 days of the pregnancy. Ultrasound will have to be conducted in order to spot it.

WE have an english bulldog that we bred.  Her first due date is May 1st, but I have been watching her temperature.  Yesterday she was 99..and the past few hrs her temp is 98... But there were no signs of nesting at all..  Could she be in labor now....or is it possible the her temp may fluctuate before the actual labor?
