In dogs, there is an estrus cycle in during menstruation which includes a period of false pregnancy. The main cause of false pregnancy is hormonal imbalances. The signs of false pregnancy are unnoticed and subtle. During this false pregnancy, also called pseudo pregnancy or pseudo cyesis, the dog's behavioral and even physical symptoms are just like those in normal pregnancy. They not only have swollen nipples but they also produce milk, have expanded abdomen and they also include nesting and carrying objects and soft toys to the nest. In the early stages, a false pregnancy cannot be distinguished from a real one however later on it is distinguishable as late as after 60 days of the pregnancy. Ultrasound will have to be conducted in order to spot it.
I have a english bull dog that had her first heat in end of march starte ed march 22 and I thought I was very careful not to let my male near her but there is always that chance. Her nipples are very large and pink I am wondering if she is pregnant. If so should I alow her to have the pups she is to young .only 10 months.
You need to take your dog to the vet now!
WE have an english bulldog that we bred. Her first due date is May 1st, but I have been watching her temperature. Yesterday she was 99..and the past few hrs her temp is 98... But there were no signs of nesting at all.. Could she be in labor now....or is it possible the her temp may fluctuate before the actual labor?
