You didn't say how old but between 8weeks to 3 months you should be giving it 4 meals a day, this can be reduced to 3 then eventually 2 per day. Your puppy will let you know when its time to cut down because he will seem disinterested. By about 6months he should be on 2 meals a day.
I have raised animals all my life and on dogs I found it best to let them have all they want so they don't become pigs and over eat once they know that there is always food avaiable they just eat at their own pace if just give portions they sometimes eat too fast and throw up or over eat if you leave it down they will stop when full if they r not used to having all they want start slow and if trying to house break feed all they want according to your schedule and pick up at night or whats best for your sleep time depending on what shift you work unless your home with pup all the time once completely house broken you can leave food down at all times and its best to get a good food go by the ingredients on back of bag not the pictures on front the first ingredient basically is what your dog is eating and most dog food the first ingredient is corn people don't know that because the picture or words on front of bag are decieving the first ingredient should be meat usually chicken iams is good and purina one is another good one next time you buy food just look at the ingredients and see for yourself if 1st ingredient says corn that is what your dog is eating and they will eat more and poop 4 to 5 times more on one that corn is 1st ingredient the other food is more expensive but you will find your dog will eat much less poop much less so house training is much easier because there is no waste their body utilises it and is good for digestion better immune system better teeth and coat basically a healthier dog if your dog is on another food and you do switch it takes almost a month to see complete difference but you will notice a difference right away on the stool it will be considerably less make life better all around for you and your puppy hoped this helped you may already be feeding one of the best and I hope you r but sometimes we go by what the front of the bag and the pictures so next time shopping check the back of bag ingredients you will be shocked on how decieving the pics. R most foods r made of corn always go with 1st ingredient which should be meat and purina one has many different meats like chicken beef turkey and lamb now lamb is not a red meat and usually given to dogs that have allergies or skin problems but you can feed to them for just a change of taste occaisonally but if dog is healthy and maybe you intend to breed don't use for long periods of time unless he has allergies and needs something blan cause dogs require red meat I hope this answered you ? Best of luck looks like you r looking for the best for your dog and hope you both r satisfied keep you the intrest you show I can tell you want the best for your puppy if I can help in any way don't hesitate to ask like I said I have had and worked with all different animals my entire life and love to help if I can I think tour doing great by asking and getting advice READ THOSE INGREDIENTS AND YOU WONT GO WRONG
Recommended daily amount: 1.25 to 1.75 cups of a high-quality dog food daily, divided into two meals.
You should feed him/her twice or tree times a day in little amounts this way your dog should not get bloted or over eat:) Tip: If your dog is bloting after his/her food or is having troble going to the loo mix some ready break into the food or put a drop of low fat milk into his/her food:) I hope this info helps you out ;)
