Reaching speeds of, approximately, seventy miles per hour, the Cheetah is the fastest animal on land and can even accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometres per hour in 3.5 seconds. Due to the fact that cheetahs have non-retractable claws, or so it was believed, cheetahs were, until recently, thought to be a part of the dog family. Cheetahs, however, do have retractable claws although, unlike other cats, they do not have a sheath for their claws to retract into. Today, widely believed to be a Big Cat, the cheetah is scientifically classified as a Small Cat. All cats that roar are considered to be Big Cats, whereas all cats that purr are considered to be Small Cats. The cheetah purrs thus making this cat a Small Cat. The adult cheetah weighs between fourty to sixty-five kilograms and has a total body length measuring between one hundred and twelve to one hundred and thirty-five centimetres.

A cheetah is part of the cat family. It was believed that they were part of the dog family. For many reasons, such as non-retractable claws which allow them to grip the ground in high speed chases.A dog's non-retractable claws help grip the ground as well. The dog like face. When you look at a cheetah's face compare it to a dog's.Also like dogs cheetah's are light weight which allows them to run like a dog for a certain distance, although a dog can't run 70 mph. What else makes a cheetah look like a dog,is that they have tear marks. Those tear marks prevent lots of sun glare from getting in the cheetahs eyes at high speed chases.Unlike   lions, tigers, jaguars, and leopards the cheetah has a flexible spine for running so fast.

The cheetah is known to have some types of dog in it but is classified as a cat. The way the non retractable claws are and the dog like behaviour. The cheetah is the fastest animal on land and is classified as the small cats. When the cheetah hunts it isn't strong enough to break the preys neck so it will pounce and bite the throat of the preys neck so it can't breath. The cheetah can't climb trees because its claws are  not retractable like other big cats.

Cheetahs have the structure of a canine but are classified as felines because they accept feline vaccines not canine vaccines.

Actually...both. As strange as it may sound, the cheetah DNA contains both feline and canine...the only explanation for this, follows the ancient astronaut theory, that the earth was visited by extra terrestrials who brought along technology and genetic manipulation capabilities. The cheetah was used in royal courts as a hunting animal, very easily trained and domesticated...which lends me to believe the theories of ancient genetic manipulation was used as experimentation, thus giving us the cheetah.

It is considered a Cat (in the mainstream scientific world) but they used to think the Earth was flat didn't they! Cheetahs are almost clones of one another genetically, they have traits of both cats and dogs, they are more like a domesticated animal than a wild one in many ways. They are acceptant of humans. Their jaws and paws have more canine characteristics than feline. I would suggest that they were an ancient species of domesticated creature, that has long since returned to the wild.

Total agree with your comments, Lloyd Pye on his talk on Human Origins, gave an amazing talk and this came up, The research shows that they were cloned from the ancient times, along with humans, of course Science or history would never disclose these facts, it would change the world over night.

Perhaps the scientific community has not been totally on the level
with regarding our feline friends. But at any rate it is just as much
cat as it is dog just by looking at it. Again you can't win this debate
by merely looking at the animal; in order to solve the problem an honest
geneticist with no real stakes in the results need to administer the
test.

A Cheetah is part of the small cat family as it does not roar. It has many canine like traits, but is classified as feline. My personal opinion is that it is a mix of the two and a beautiful unique creature.

Cheetah is not one of the big cats.  The "big cats" are lion, tiger, leopard and jaguar.  Cheetahs, like cougars, might be pretty big, but they are not big cats.  Big cats roar!

I go with the Big Cat label. It's head may be on the small size but a dog would never have to run that fast for dinner. The impact force on the foot pads is tremendous at seventy miles per hour plus...
