Its actually normal for dogs to do this (not that it makes it ok lol) as they can get disease or worms..its called "Coprophagia" ..your vet will have a additive for his food you can try and it can help.but you need to keep your yard clean of poo..pick it after he goes potty so he doesn't have a chance to eat it ...it doesn't always mean anything is lacking from the diet .As long as your feed quality food.dogs are known to eat cat poo,cow poo,any poo !!!you can also try feeding pineapple - a few bites works for some dogs to make their own poo taste nasty also you can try "accent" the brand of meat tenderizer - it has MSG in it and is in many deterrents for "Coprophagia" (MSG is only an amino acid and salt biologically and has NEVER been scientifically proven to cause health problems by the way and occurs naturally in meats and seafood and various veggies)it is used in many brands for treatment of poop eating...
Dogs usually do this because there is something lacking in their diet and they are not getting enough nutirents. Best to put out some food and leave some out for snacking. Also, make sure there is plenty of water on hand. Many animals, when starving, or food source low, will do this to absorb anything they can get because their diet is not providing them with enough energy. Maybe check with pet shop. He may need change in diet or dog food
Some breeds do this naturally. I know it's gross. Keep them away as much as possible? Mine eats rabbit droppings if it makes you feel better.
My yorkie was doing this and Wilbert is right, adding some food out for snacking did the trick and she doesn't eat poop anymore; she is too full!
My dog is eating other dogs poop and we have a big yard we can't maintain it its to big and the time is for snakes to come out I'm not taking a chance.
I no this sounds like something you wouldnt realy do to a dog but when mine done it I would clean his mouth and and brush his teeth with an old toothbrush, now he doesnt do it. Try it, it might work.
