Try and take him out later at night...you could also try and spraying the inside of his blankets and stuff with stuff you can get at the pet store, it works like that chew stuff when they chew on your furniture. He may also be doing it as a behavioral thing..he may be upset about something..good luck

Keep the crate in your room where the dog can see you. Sometimes dogs can get lonely especially if they are from a big litter and they just want to be able to see that you are there with them.  My dog used to do the same thing but the very first time I put her crate in my room she stopped immediately.

Training him or her is a good thing to do

If you are trying to crate-train it, you have to make sure the crate is small enough where the puppy realizes it'll be stuck in close quarters with it's bizness. But the crate can't be too small, the puppy needs room to move around.

The crate should be just big enough for your puppy to stand up turn around and lay down, otherwise s/he will not realize that is her place to sleep only. Most dogs will not defecate in their sleeping area.

Take her outside 5 minutes after she plays, drinks, or eats. Trust me it will work :)
