I can tell you the average of eggs that a duck lays at one time. A duck lays an average of 5-8 eggs at one time.

The female duck will continue laying eggs and not set until she has what she is going to hatch out.  She will not stay on the nest after laying until it is time to set (broody).  If she set from the first egg the ducklings would all hatch on the 28 days or so from when each was laid.  The ducklings would be spread out over 3 weeks time; that is why when she sets all the eggs are there together.  Until then she'll lay eggs and than set all at once on all of them.  Also, if she set upon each one from the first one she'd be on that nest for at least 56 days from setting on the first egg to the last!!

We have a pool in our back year and a male and female duck have been splashing day once or twice a day for a few weeks swimming and having a golly ole' time.  Most recently the female duck has been int he ivy behind the pool.  Is she nesting...laying eggs?  What will happen next .... Are we going to have ducklings on the pool?  Kinda fun... Just curious to now.  THX

I have a duck and so far it has 28 eggs and counting. I am wondering if this is normal.

Mine has laid 15 and is still going!! But I want to know if they were actually fertilized, we only have one duck, but we have a pond where "stray" ducks seem to fly in & rest overnight. Hmmm, I suppose only time will tell, unless she lays the eggs no matter if they're ever fertilized??

Female mallard ducks can lay between 7 to 10 eggs and they have one brood per year. The incubation period is 26-30 days. I hope this is helpful...

Ducks lay an average of 200-350 eggs a year depending on breed. Also, they will lay eggs whether they are fertile or not. Generally wild duck breeds will not mate with domesticated breeds. So if there are ducks that are flying into your pond and mingling with your duck(s) they are probably migratory birds and are NOT mating with your birds. Your eggs are probably not fertile if you don't have a male that is domesticated.

The answer? Your Pekin Duck will probably never consistently sit on the eggs...the instinct to brood is almost completely bred out of Pekins.

Yea our female ducks will lay them but they hardly ever sit on them. They prefer to just sail around the yard.

We bought 2 female mallard ducklings for fun this spring.  They are now living in my backyard.  Do you think they will lay eggs for us?
