Can I Keep A Single Pekin Duck? If I Get Another, Does It Need To Be Pekin Too? It's A Female.

My husband and I have raised ducks most of our married life, which is 31 years. If you want to breed your duck and want peking ducklings you should get another peking duck. If you are looking for your duck to just have company, make sure the duck is the same sex and it won't matter if it is another type of duck. Ducks do cross breed.

Generally, people knowledgeable about ducks will not recommend you keep just one duck of any breed.   Ducks are inherently social creatures and still maintain many of their flock instincts, even if you have a domesticated breed like a pet Pekin duck.  This can cause them to behave irrationally and become emotionally distressed.

While people do keep one duck all the time without issue, breeders generally don't recommend it.

I would say you should get another duck to keep your's company.  The breed really isn't too significant, but if you want to possibly breed them yourself you should certainly get a male pekin.

It is a bit difficult to find a place that will sell just one duckling.  However, eFowl.com will allow you to buy one duckling, but be mindful that they may include warming chicks (extra birds), in the package to keep the ducklings safe during shipment.

Ducks are very social creatures so it's very cruel to keep just one.  Call aPoultry farm and see if they can get you another duck or a goose as a companion.  I called one and they are going to find a goose or a duck for me because one of my ducks is missing and left the other one all alone. : (

A single duck will do just fine alone but do prefer company.Just about any duck will be a good companion. My flock of ducks are mixed breeds including Pekin/ Khaki Campbell/Domesticated Mallard/Chocolate/Ancona and more.Ducks will mate naturally so the breed isn't going to affect them any.

Get her a companion. It can be male or female but she'd probably prefer a male never keep a single duck. You should always have at least two!

Check craigslist, I too have a Pekin drake and we just lost his buddy. I went on craigslist and found another buddy for him and he took to her instantly. She is a gold star hybrid, same size as a Pekin but has shades of brown in her. Anyways, there were several out there from NJ, I live in Pa very near the P-burg Nj border. Hope this helps!
