Redness and pus in the eyes of a dog can be due to many reasons like entrapped foreign material like hair, allergy to smoke, inflammation of the conjunctiva caused by bacteria or virus, glaucoma, and problems in the eyelids and eyelashes, high blood pressure and eye scratching due to irritation. Rinsing the eyes with water can help your dog but taking him to vet for eye examination and treatment will be more beneficial.
My Boxer left eye has puss most of the day. I took her to the vet, and she had surgery where they removed some of her eyelashes, and gave her a lift. She now at least can open her eye, but she still continue to have puss in her eye throughout the day. It is thick, the vet told me that she would continue to have a dry eye, but I am concern why does she continue to have the thick puss
