Heat cycle in dogs including miniature pinscher can start from 6-8 months of age. Small breeds can start their first heat cycle as early as 4 months and large breeds as late as 18 months. Heat cycle in all dogs can last for 2-4 weeks with an average of 3 weeks. First stage of canine heat cycle is called proestrus. At this time, vaginal bleeding starts and swelling of vulva takes place. This period can last for an average 10 days. Female does not allow males to come for mating. Second stage is called estrus during which mating usually occurs. Best time for mating is between 11-15 days when bleeding ceases and dog shows flagging.
Usually, 3-4 weeks with an average of 3 weeks. During their heat cycle, bleeding phase can be of 7-10 days. When bleeding is ceased or reduced then second phase starts and dogs show flagging at that time which is indication for male dogs to mate with them.
