If you've never given an animal an injection before, you should take him/her to a vet for the first shot, and have them show you the correct way to do it for future vaccinations.

You shouldn't if you don't have any idea of what you are doing yet. Best thing to do is take your puppy and your vaccine into the vet and have them begin teaching you the stuff you need to know first. They can talk to you first and make sure the vaccine in your possession is even still valid since some mistakes are very common that would render it useless not long after you got it.
It's also good to keep in mind that many places will not accept owner given vaccines as a dog being vaccinated (often they aren't, due to that oh so common mistake when handling vaccines and not knowing enough about them) unless your vet can confirm that they consider your vaccines given properly and you are aware of protocol and such. Otherwise they want something from a vet.
You may also end up with much higher vet bills than going to the vet in the first place if you don't know enough about what you are doing. Just take the time to learn about it first. Good Luck.
