Your kitten is not a miniature cat, and needs to get more protein till he is over one year old. Make sure you get him a cat food designed for kittens.

While dry food is convenient, for a healthier life, you should give your kitten canned wet food, with dry food serving as snacks or treats. Dry food is not as healthy as the canned wet food that is available, and is also tougher to digest.

Unlike cats, kittens cannot overfeed, so you can follow free feeding for a while, and see what eating pattern develops. It is a good idea to start off with small meals 3-4 times and day, and as the kitten grows reduce the number of feedings but increase the amount.
