I'm trying to figure it out too! I live in the North County San Diego area, and in the apartment that I recently moved out of, I would see these spiders, about an inch and a half long with bright red legs and a brown body. The closest thing I've been able to find that resembles them is a slater-eating spider, but I'm not sure that that's what they are.
