Thought I'd close this.  Sherry does have a point, and so does Mattickm.  People who over-coddle their pets can verge on abuse themselves, and I suspect a lot of pets who end up needing depression medication live mainly in homes that are too small for them, yet in which they are overly pampered, overly-controlled, and are completely robbed of any of their natural instincts.  When you take in a pet, especially if you adopt a stray, you have already given it a much better quality of life.  But- unless you have other pets in the house- you have also taken it out of it's social cat environment, and are expecting it- as much as any pet owner does- to live by a code of rules completely foreign to it's idea of survival.  You deserve commendation for taking the cat in, but you do need- in some ways- to safety proof your house in the same way one does for a child.  Even if you can't pay for it's every cold to be investigated by a vet, it is your responsibility to put away things that the cat can either get sick from or hurt itself on.  By making it a domestic creature, you're dulling his survival instinct, and the normal processes by which a cat learns from previous experience.  Again, you deserve respect for bringing him into your home, but you have to realize as well, that home is not by default, any safer than the  streets, and you, as the human he trusts, are responsible for making sure it is.

My cat is fine now and to the comment that sherry3 just had to leave about animals and children to be treated the same. You know its that kind of comment animal people just have to throw around. And it angers me on so many levels I don't have the time. I grew up being second to "Moms dogs" people can be so "over the top" animals are animals and your children are DIFFERENT, your privilege is living on this planit and loving our children, remember animals were quite happy without us, and any one with half a brain would know not to be mean to ANY living breathing thing. STOP dressing STOP talking baby to them how freaking embarrassing, AND PLEASE stop making animals human by dressing them. That's what there fur is for
sherry3-the cat threw up aluminum foil hes fine-if I were to react the way you think we all need to, there would be no money left to take care of our kids-your ideas are irresponsible--I have two cats with me,ones a wild farrel cat we've had for ten years, never able to touch her and is just fine, tell me they can't handle life without our meddiling

Wow someone has some mommy issues. Well if you chose to take on the responsibility of an animals life then you need to be responsible for its healthcare, many cats live for years because they are lucky not because doing nothing for them is actually beneficial,

Well i feel sorry for any animal you chose to own, i do not compromise the well being and health of my animals for anything i will not let an animal suffer and i will not own more than i can afford and am prepared for costs encured do to unexpected illness. That is a responsible pet owner. You cannot justify lack of caring and compasion because you have no money. Its quite simple. If you don't take on more than you can afford kids and animals never have to be compromised.

If he's getting better and eating some, then maybe you should not be worrying.  If he has gradually improved over the last 3 1/2 days, then he's probably going to be fine.  If he stops eating again, then I would take him to see a vet.

Sherry3 knock off the holy stuff, I just came here for some info you had to start preaching, just thought id be the one to let you know not every one on this planet wants to hear from ones like you, that think any good intentions but yours are wrong.Your approval/opinion are less than helpful or of any use to anyone, ask your friends,or are they scared of you. My animals are very protected, loved and cared for. And I don't need to be explaining any of this to one sitting so far up on that high horse.
God too judgmental, just let it go

If your cat is not up to date on vaccine he could have a virus, do you have any plants in teh house he has been chewing, is he still having bowel movements and are his clumps in the litter box normal sized and not small crumbles, I would check to see if his belly is hard, what food is he on, I wouldn't leave him as there are many lifethreatning conditions like urinary crystals that could be causeing it, not to mention piosoning. If you don't have money to take care of an animal when its sick you should do the animal a favor and give it to someone who can. Pets are a privelage not a right and deserve the same medical care you would give to your children

You really need to get this poor kitty to the vet and get help for it. This is not normal for a cat to do. Hope this helps. Good luck to you and the kitty.
