The antibiotic Clavamox, like many antibiotics that even humans take, can make your cat drowsy due to its strength as an antibiotic. Given that cats are much smaller than humans and have different bodies, they need smaller doses than us, but they still may have side effects like drowsiness, especially if they are only small cats. It isn't really something to worry about, but you should contact your vet just to inform them of the change in behavior, whilst carrying on giving your pet their medication.
There are other side effects that you may note with your cat whilst they are taking the Clavamox antibiotic:
· The cat may start having mild diarrhea after taking the pills. This is annoying, but relatively normal, as long as it doesn't become frequent and excessive. If it does, then you need to take your pet straight to the vet as soon as you possibly can. They may end up getting dehydrated from the water that they pass with the diarrhea. It isn't as easy to deal with diarrhea in animals, because you can't really communicate the importance of keeping yourself topped up with fluids to a cat.
· You may notice that you can is being sick relatively often when they have taken Clavamox tablets. This is another mild side effect and will only last for a couple of days. If it gets too severe, or the cat is being sick too often or after the time allocated to take the pills, you need to take your cat to the vet for a check-up.
· Another side effect of Clavamox on your cat is a yeast or fungal infection being noticeable. If you notice this side effect, you need to get in touch with your local vet to ask them for more medication as it can be very uncomfortable for a cat with an infection like that.
