Well their could be a lot of reasons,people always complain about this and they say they bathe them and they still smell,this could be bacteria and a lot of things and you could go to the vet and seek some advice.
Why Do Golden Retrievers Smell?
Because GOD gave them noses.
If your golden smells there is probably a reason. Dirty ears, bacterial or other skin infection, allergies, bad teeth, maybe anal glands or a bunch of other things. Try having your pup professionally groomed at a grooming shop and see if they still smell afterward. It is very different from a home job if they are good. :-) They may also pinpoint something you haven't caught on to yet. Best to use an all natural oatmeal shampoo and no perfumes and no cage dryer's only hand drying (they are also more likely to see something through the hair). Do you feed a high quality food and not one that's all chemicals and fillers and maybe euthanized animals and those chemicals and yet more chemicals to break them down? Ick.
