Yes Good Labs often will have the "hound knot" as you call it. The rise on the top of the skull is normal and is also a sign of a generally smarter than average dog. The top knot should be set midway between the ears and slightly to the back. When you place your hand on your dogs head between the ears (fingers toward the muzzle) the knot should be in the palm of your hand. The face should be square with a strong muzzle that has a straight line from the nose to the chin.

But whatever the standards if you love your dog who cares about knots on the head or not (lol).
Unless you are wanting a show dog any lab will be a great companion
