Panting and shivering is common during labor in dogs. Shivering or shaking is due to pain that is caused by the uterine contractions. These contractions are produced to expel the puppy out. Excessive panting in dogs at the time of labor can be due to pain. At the time of labor, dogs can also strain. This straining is to push the puppy outside.
